Research and Development
Palcan maintains its principal R&D activities at its head office in Vancouver, located in Canada’s National Research Centre for Advanced Fuel Cell development. . This centre houses state of the art instrumentation and labs where scientists representing a broad spectrum of disciplines collaborate to advance fuel cell development..
Palcan continues to work on a variety of improvements on the both the fuel production and storage system as well as overall application efficiency from its Vancouver lab.
Palcan maintains close relationships with several Chinese Universities including East China University of Science and Technology (ECU). At ECU Palcan is developing a new Chemical Hydride (CH) formulation as an alternative to Palcan’s Metal Hydride (MH) hydrogen storage system. Chemical Hydride would enable Palcan to offer clients a fuel storage system that lasts longer and is lighter than its MH canister but is not renewable. H2 storage in CH is designed for particular applications such as the military.
Palcan’s R&D efforts also involve organizations such as Shanghai Power Research Institute (SPRI) a subsidiary of China Space Agency. The SPRI has expertise in the field of electrolysers and as such is developing with Palcan a new generation of electrolyser that is intended to generate H2 with less energy than existing devices.
